Großvenediger 3.666 m
The Großvenediger, the “world-old majesty”, is the heavily glaciated main summit of the Venediger group in the Hohe Tauern on the border between East Tyrol and Salzburg.
With its height of 3,666 meters above sea level, it is the highest mountain in Salzburg.
Normal way
Requirements:
- Good condition for 300 meters of altitude / hour,
- Surefootedness, a head for heights
1 day:
Meeting point is in the Upper Pinzgau near Neukirchen am Großvenediger at the Hopfeldboden at the entrance to the Oberzulzbach Valley. Transfer by cab to the material cable car of the Kührsingerhütte 1950m. Moderate ascent to the hut via a marked hiking trail.

2 day:
In the light of the headlamps we hike towards the glacier. With the first light of day we enter the glacier. Roped up, we walk across the huge glacier surface of the Obersulzbachkeese past crevasse zones to the Venedigerscharte 3200m. From here it’s another 400 meters to the summit when the air is getting thinner. For the “grand finale”, it goes over the famous firn ridge to the summit cross. After a long rest it goes back to the hut on the same path. After a little refreshment at the Kürsingerhütte, we go down to the material cable car, where the taxi is already waiting.
