Gran Paradiso – South Wallis
Gran Paradiso: Parade Valais South at its finest
Requirements:
- safe parallel skiing in all types of snow
- Experience in walking with skins and the hairpin bend
- Surefootedness
- Experience in the use of crampons, ice axe
- Condition of approx. 6 – 8 hours
1 day:
Meet at 5 p.m. in Pont in Valsavarenche at the Hotel Gran Paradiso. Discussion of the program.
Day 2: ascent to the hut
Ascent to the Vittorio Emanuelle hut 2732m. In the afternoon, depending on conditions and weather, short acclimatization tour.
- Ascent: 900hm
- Walking time: 3 hours
Day 3: La Tresenta, 3609m
Beautiful, promising ski mountain. Ascent over the Montcorve Glacier.
- Ascent / Descent: 900hm
- Walking time: 3 – 4 hours
Day 4: Gran Paradiso, 4061m
Glacier traversal to the Scharte, easy rock ridge climbing to the highest point. Departure into the valley and overnight hotel in Pont.
- Ascent: 1300hm / Descent: 2100hm
- Walking time: 5 – 6 hours
Day 5: Mantova Hut, 3400m
After breakfast we change to Valle Gressoney in Stafal (two-hour drive). Cable car ascent to Punta Indren, continue to the high altitude hut at 3400m
- Ascent: 2 hours
Day 6: Five four-thousanders
A fantastic day of touring: Vincent pyramid 4215m, Ludwigshöhe 4341m, Parrot peak 4432m, Schwarzhorn 4321m, Balmenhorn 4167m.
- Ascent / Descent: 1400hm
- Walking time: 6 hours
Day 7: Signalkuppe 4554m – Zumsteinspitze 4563m
The Signalkuppe with the highest hut in Europe, the Capanna Margherita. Further to the Zumsteinspitze. Grandiose glacier landscape.
Departure to Gressoney. Departure.
